What happens in counselling?

In counselling you can expect:

A counsellor can help you with:

In counselling, you can talk about problems and concerns in a safe place with someone who will support you. You are entitled to a counsellor:

  • Whom you can trust and be open with

  • Who listens carefully and sensitively

  • Who is non-judgemental and will not blame you for the problem

  • Who will support you in changes you decide to make and encourage you to make your own decisions

  • Who will offer to refer you to other help if necessary

In counselling, you can expect

  • A safe space to talk and be listened to

  • To feel cared about

  • Not to be blamed

  • To talk honestly and freely

  • To get some guidance, if you want it

  • To feel better after a while

  • To be encouraged to make positive changes oriented to life and wholeness

  • To be equipped with tools, skills and coping strategies

  • To be empowered with your own identity and autonomy

A counsellor can help you to

  • Explore your [past and/or present] emotions, thoughts, behaviour, and the impact of these

  • Become more aware of yourself, your values, strengths, emotions and what motivates you 

  • Set achievable goals and make plans of how to get there

  • Improve your relationships whether new or committed

  • Reduce stress and regulate emotions

  • Develop your sense of well-being

  • Get the support and bring about lasting changes to be the best you are meant to be
