About Judy

BCounselling, BSc, PGDipSc

Full Member Registered with NZAC and Provisional Member with NZCCA

I am a fully-qualified counsellor (ACC Registered), I’ve been in a counselling capacity since 2015 - helping people of all ages and backgrounds through difficult times to find purpose, identity, and skills to live freer, healthier lives.

I specialise in helping adults, young people and children who have gone through difficult experiences including all types of trauma, family violence and sexual abuse as well as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, communication in relationships, self-esteem, emotional regulation, culture, spirituality, etc in English and Mandarin.

You can expect a gentle, caring approach to my work. My approach is eclectic as I draw from my vast range of training to inform my work which includes Person-Centred Therapy, solution-focused therapy, strength-based approach, crisis intervention, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) 5 part model, brainspotting, attachment theory, narrative therapy, developmental neuroscience, talk therapy, small figures, psychoeducation and many more. With children, I use a further range of Play Therapy, Art Therapy and Sand Tray.

I also love to help couples come into a place of safety and connection together. In my work with couples and families, I use a range of couples therapy modalities and have been trained at Relate Counselling which includes Gottman Method Level 2, Imago Therapy, Emotion-focused Therapy, Encounter-centred Couples Therapy, Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), Presence Orientated Relationship Therapy (PORT).

I have a background in science and have worked for several years in various industries before making a dramatic career change to pursue my passion for counselling. This was facilitated by attending the Living Wisdom School Level 1 & 2 and obtaining my counselling degree through Laidlaw College in Henderson, Auckland. I was born in Taiwan and immigrated to New Zealand with my family in the 90s. With my husband and our child, we now live in Central Auckland. I can understand the struggle with culture shock, settling into an unfamiliar country and dealing with language barriers, racism and bullying as well as cross-cultural relationship difficulties.  Personally, I've been through stuckness, emptiness, confusion with life's purpose, direction and I've come to realise how important good mental health is.

I love counselling, I love helping people get their light bulb moment. One single insight can set you free from a lifetime of pain. I believe in short term pain for long term gain. My passion is to journey with people in the darkest, most difficult moments of life and give them hope.

My clients note my warmth, acceptance, empathic way of being, cheerful presence and supportive nature. As someone who comes from the Christian faith, I bring this background to my work implicitly and have an openness and curiosity about the person in front of me without judgement. I want to help support you to reach your full potential, your goals in life and explore what might be getting in the way. Together, we can let go of old childhood messages, out-dated coping strategies, and discover your voice, your self-worth, and your true being.

Send me a message and I will be in touch as soon as I can :)

I am currently not taking new referrals until 2024.

Thank you
